The statistics say that if we reach a child, there’s a 25% likelihood that we’ll reach the entire family for Christ.

If we win a wife and mother to Christ, there’s a 29% likelihood of reaching the rest of the family. And if the husband and father comes to Christ, there is a 95% likelihood that the rest of the family will come to Christ as well.

Men have influence in their families, in their business communities, among their friends.  And a man who follows Christ whole-heartedly is a mighty force for the Kingdom of God.

But that raises two questions:  What does it mean in 21st century Chicago to be a man, and what does it look like to follow Christ whole-heartedly as a man in the context of the marketplace, our relationships and our selves?  Ideas of masculinity and spirituality abound in the marketplace – it’s like shopping for bottled water at a warehouse store:  How do you know which one to choose? Are they all basically the same, or does an informed choice make a significant difference.

“The Quest for Authentic Manhood” is a 24 week curriculum in which men journey with other men towards God’s ideal for men:  an ideal of strength, courage, confidence, passion, wisdom and fidelity.  We’ll explore masculinity, and we’ll get a clear idea of what it looks like when a man follows Christ.
